SemesterTicket DING (Uni Ulm und HS Ulm)
The entire public transport in the region is managed by the transportation network DING (Donau-Iller-Nahverkehrsverbund-GmbH) and includes the administrative districts Alb-Donau, Biberach and Neu-Ulm as well as the cities Ulm, Neu-Ulm and Biberach. Students currently pay €42.20 for a monthly student ticket for the city zone Ulm/Neu-Ulm, i.e. €253.20 per semester.
The cheaper alternative
The semester ticket is a personal season ticket for unlimited trips in the entire DING area and is valid for the period of one semester. Eligible are students who are enrolled at Ulm University, Ulm University of Applied Sciences and Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences and subject to the fees of the Studierendenwerk.
This is by far the cheapest offer for subscribers in the entire DING area and made possible only in the context of all students contributing through the Solidarbeitrag (solidarity contribution).
How much does it cost?
There is the Solidarbeitrag of €29.50 for students at Ulm University and Biberach University of Applied Sciences (HBC). The Solidarbeitrag for students at Ulm University of Applied Sciences is €30.50 (included in the fee of the Studierendenwerk). This allows you to use all public transport across the entire DING area including night buses, from Monday till Friday from 6 pm and all-day Saturday and Sunday. Students at Ulm University of Applied Sciences can currently also use line 4 between the stops "Örlinger Straße" and "Egertweg" without time restrictions. Students at Ulm University can use buses free of charge between the stops "Uni Süd" and "Manfred-Börner-Straße". If you want to use public transport during the remaining times and zones, you need to buy the actual semester ticket for €129.00 (from 1st January 2020) per semester.
The City of Ulm gives you one semester ticket for free when you register your primary residence in Ulm (the Solidarbeitrag must be paid).
Points of sale of the Studierendenwerk are the Info Point, cafeteria B at Ulm University and the office of the General Students' Association (AStA) at Ulm University of Applied Sciences.
Please note: Do not laminate the ticket as this renders it invalid.
Important: The semester ticket is valid only in conjunction with the student ID card. Make sure that you always carry your student ID card with you! If you did not purchase a semester ticket but want to use public transport including night buses throughout the entire DING zone Monday till Friday from 6 pm and all-day Saturday and Sunday plus public holidays, you must carry your student ID card with you as your ticket. You should also always have an official photo identification with you as proof that your use of public transport is lawful, in case of ticket control.

Saving money on transport
The three mentioned transportation networks have teamed up with the student services Tübingen-Hohenheim, Ulm and Constance and launched a connection semester ticket (Anschluss-SemesterTicket). All students with a DING, naldo or bodo semester ticket can now buy a connecting Anschluss-SemesterTicket for the adjacent transportation network. This solution is not only much cheaper than buying additional monthly student tickets, it also affords unlimited mobility in two transportation networks at the same time.
Prices and values
All students with a DING semester ticket can purchase the bodo Anschluss-SemesterTicket for €176 or the naldo Anschluss-SemesterTicket for €162.00 (current status January 2020). If you have a naldo or DING Anschluss-SemesterTicket, you can also use the connection Bad Saulgau-Aulendorf which crosses the bodo area.
