There are alternative funding options for students who receive little or no financial support through the Federal Education Assistance Act (BAföG).
Bildungskredit
This state-funded education loan program is a fixed-term, low-interest credit to support students and pupils during advanced stages of their education. You can apply for up to 24 monthly disbursements of €300 each within one qualification. A one-time disbursement of up to six installments up front may be granted in addition to the monthly disbursements. The loan is granted regardless of your personal and your parents’ financial situation.

The Studierendenwerk offers a loan to enable students who can demonstrate financial hardship and do not receive BAföG in order to help them continue or complete their studies. This loan is available for a maximum of 12 months. Eligible cases of hardship are students who run into financial difficulties through no fault of their own. Please do not hesitate to get in touch.
As distribution partner of the KfW Group, the student finance department can also arrange a KfW student loan. Applications are submitted to the KfW via the Amt für Ausbildungsförderung (Office for Education Assistance). This interest-bearing loan is granted irrespective of income and for one study subject. The interest rate is 4.09% per annum. Please note that a considerable loan debt may arise, depending on the disbursement period and the amount disbursed monthly. The interest rate is variable and adjusted every six months according to the development at the capital market. Students studying for the first time can apply for €100 – 650 per month. This loan can be combined with BAföG or a Bildungskredit.

The Aufstiegsstipendium for professionals is an initiative of the federal government for skilled professionals with vocational training and a minimum of two years professional experience. You can apply before beginning your studies until the end of the second semester.
